Learning from Dogs

Awwww…remembering Ronin, our beloved Great Dane. It’s been about 5 years since we said goodbye to him. But we remember him frequently, through stories told, and random reminders of him and his gentle spirit.

Being a dog-lover is a double-edged sword.

By definition, their lifespans are shorter than humans so experiencing the pain of their loss is unavoidable.

Yet I get so much from sharing life with these creatures.

For me, dogs model how to be present in the moment, how to forgive quickly, how to be with differences, how to be unrestrained in greeting and expressing joy, what it looks like to love without conditions, the importance of play and fun, and what it is to be mortal with a limited time on this planet. Loss is simply part of the package. ❤️
